Duterte to visit Tacloban today to inspect Yolanda rehab

TACLOBAN CITY, January 25, 2017 — President Rodrigo Duterte will visit this city today, Wednesday, to check on the update of the government’s Yolanda rehabilitation works.

In an interview on Tuesday night, Office of the Presidential Adviser for the Visayas (OPAV) Secretary Michael Lloyd L. Dino said the President will be bringing with him a “surprise.”

“We will be bringing some good news to the homeowners. Surprise na lang bukas,” he said.

Dino said since the President’s visit on the site on November 8 last year, close to 4,000 residents have already been relocated.

This is apart from the previous 1,500 who were relocated since Dino took over the rehabilitation work from Vice President Leni Robredo, who used to be the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Secretary.

The rehabilitation work, which is already long overdue, is finally set to be completed in a maximum of two years. Dino said the rehabilitation work is now close to 40% done.

“With the Duterte speed, knowing the Duterte administration, I think (that it will be finished) within the year. Kasi, we are not just talking about Tacloban, we are talking about other cities as well. In fact, the Yolanda corridor reaches up to Palawan,” Dino said.
